UPDATE: We have been notified of an error in this podcast by one of our listeners. Please accept my sincere apologies for the inaccuracies in my report on Senate Joint Resolution 13. When this podcast was produced, SJR 13 had been amended twice. The first of these amendments changed the wording of the resolution to “require the recognition of all marriages, regardless of gender.” The second would allow clergy members and religious organizations the right to refuse to sanctify marriages between same sex couples and would protect them from legal claims made against them for such a refusal.
In my report, I stated that SJR 13 was amended by the Assembly Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections and was soon to be voted on in an Assembly floor session. This too was incorrect. At the time, SJR 13 had not yet cleared the Nevada Senate. It was read for the third time in a Senate floor session on April 22. The bill passed on a 12-9 vote and was sent to the Assembly where it has now been referred to the Assembly Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections. We at the Nevada Media Alliance realize that the relationship between journalist and reader is one based upon trust. We will always do our best to ensure that our reporting is accurate, objective and timely.
