After nearly 15 years, Western Nevada College President Carol Lucey is stepping down from her post. She says legislative higher education budget cuts have taken a toll not only on her, but on WNC’s campus.

In March, Nevada Media Alliance spoke to Lucey, who was, at the time, extremely optimistic about her college’s future despite the looming threat of budget cuts.

“I am so confident that the legislature and the government will not let this happen,” Lucey said. “I’m not even thinking about that. I’m basically Scarlett O’Hara — I’ll worry about that problem tomorrow if I have to. I hope I don’t have to.”
